Format and draw
In addition to the 10 winners of the play-off round , 22 teams qualify automatically for the group stage (32 teams) :
champions , runners-up and third associations ranked 1 to 3 UEFA index ( England, Spain and Germany);
champions and runners-up from the associations ranked from April to June in the UEFA rankings (Italy, Portugal and France ) ;
6 champions associations ranked from July to December at UEFA index (Russia, Netherlands , Ukraine , Greece, Turkey , Belgium);
the titleholder , or - if already qualified , the champion of the association ranked 13 in the UEFA index (Denmark).
The 32 teams are divided into eight groups of four and compete in mini- leagues of six days. The top two teams from each group , sixteen teams will qualify for the knockout finals, while the third of each group qualify for the knockout stages of the Europa League .
For the draw , the 32 teams are divided into four pots based on their UEFA coefficient.
The title holder is placed automatically in the seedings ( pot 1 ) , regardless of the value of its UEFA coefficient compared to the coefficients of the other competing teams .
